Biography

Amin Hosseinian-Far is a Professor of Systems Thinking in the Department of Business Systems and Operations, within the Faculty of Business & Law at the University of Northampton. He is Chair of the research Centre for Sustainable Business Practices (CSBP) at the University. Moreover, Amin is the founding member of the recently-established research group titled Systems, Analytics, and Business Intelligence (SABI) within the Faculty. 

Prof. Hosseinian-Far received his BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems from the University of East London, an MSc degree in Satellite Communications and Space Systems from the University of Sussex, a Postgraduate Certificate in Research and a PhD degree titled ‘A Systemic Approach to an Enhanced Model for Sustainability’ which he acquired from the University of East London. In his previous academic experience, he was a Staff Tutor at the Open University, UK, and prior to that a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at Leeds Beckett University, UK. He has held lecturing and research positions at the University of East London, and at a number of private HE institutions and strategy research firms.

Amin has been engaged in teaching, research, and scholarship within UK higher education institutions since 2009. His research interests are at the intersections of systems thinking (mainly hard systems thinking), information systems, analytics, and modelling, with applications in various fields. He has actively been engaged in pursuing and successfully securing external research funding. Amin also received the UON’s Research Diamond Award for Excellence in Doctoral Supervision in 2020, in recognition of his work in supporting, and advising doctoral students. 

Over the years, he has contributed to more than 100 peer-reviewed publications which are mainly disseminated as journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters.  During the pandemic, his contribution to the horizon scanning of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) was acknowledged; Additionally, one of his systematic reviews has been cited by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank group, the UK Parliament, the Publications Office of the European Union, and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).  Amin has edited books, conference proceedings, and has served on numerous review boards, and editorial committees of several international journals and conferences. He is the Founding Editor and the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Strategic Engineering (IJoSE), an ex-Associate Editor for the International Journal of Systems and Society, and a Guest Editor for Special Issues in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH), and Systems (MDPI).

Prof. Amin Hosseinian-Far has held the Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) since 2011, the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) since 2012, and the Senior Fellowship of Advance-HE (HEA) since 2016. Furthermore, he is an external associate of the Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) at the University of East London, UK, and the Public Transportation Systems (PTS) Research Group at RMIT University, Australia.
