I teach modules on the history of crime and punishment (HIS2010 and HIS3019 at UG level, HISM049 at PG) but am comfortbale lecturing on most aspects of British social and cultural historythat covbers the period from the mid 18th to the early 20th centuries. As a historian of crime I am most interested in the way that crime is portrayed in the media and how that impacts attitudes towards those accused of criminality. I am also fascinated by the use of discretion in all levels of the justice system and in who has access to this discretion.
