Biography
Dr Kimberley Hill is an Associate Professor and Psychology Deputy Subject Lead at The University of Northampton.
Kimberley is a Chartered Psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychology Society and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Kimberley first completed a BSc Degree in Psychology with First Class Honours after being awarded an Academic Excellence Scholarship by Oxford Brookes University. Kimberley was later awarded the Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research Prize for her MRes degree in Psychological Research which was jointly taught by Oxford Brookes and The University of Oxford. Following this, she read for a PhD in Psychology and Health after being recommended to receive a DTP Studentship to support her doctoral studies. Kimberley has also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and another in Research Degree Supervision.
Following her role as a Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University, Kimberley joined the Psychology Division at the University of Northampton at the end of 2014. As a Programme Leader, Kimberley provides module leadership and teaches across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules. She also supervises undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral student projects. Kimberley is also adept in developing and coordinating courses for an international market. She has validated and led a number of successful Psychology programmes between the University of Northampton and global academic partners, while developing methods and procedures for Education With Others (EWO).
As a National STEM Ambassador and Psychology STEM lead, Kimberley has spearheaded Psychology’s inclusion in the University STEM agenda. Kimberley is dedicated to enthusing young people about Psychology and in enhancing employability. She has previously run the Psychology Alumni Panel Careers Event and has Chaired the cross-University STEM Steering Group, which has set up an innovative community-focused STEAMSpace. Kimberley runs a number of inreach and outreach events involving local schools, FE and HE institutions to widen participation in STEM subjects, previously chairing the Northampton and District A-Level Psychology (NAP) Teacher’s Group which organises Teacher's Meetings, Practical Experience of Research Days and Research Conferences for local teachers, school pupils and community groups (more information can be found here: https://bit.ly/2EuqKWg). As a member of WISE, Kimberley is dedicated to enhancing access to science for all.
Research Interests
Kimberley is a co-lead for the Health, Education and Behaviour Change Research Group, which sits within the Centre for Psychological Sciences at The University of Northampton. Her primary research interests are in the areas of:
- Promoting health and preventing health risk behaviours.
- The perceptual control of social action, cognition and development in context.
- Expertise in quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research.
Kimberley is involved in funded research projects and consultancy work with colleagues both within and beyond the UK, as well as local organisations and community groups. Kimberley’s most recent projects have focused on improving the health of those within the nightlife economy, creating substance free spaces across Europe, understanding decision making processes behind Brexit and social factors related to pro-environmental behaviours. Kimberley has also recently worked on a HEFCE-funded project which focused on creating new spaces within Higher Education to safeguard students from violence and hate. She has published in the fields of prevention science, health, social and cognitive psychology.
