Personal profile

Biography

I am an highly experienced academic leader with an extensive and successful track record of operational and strategic leadership at Departmental and School level in UK universities.  I have a had both commercial experience and leadership roles.   I have transformed academic departments and created high performance teams in Business, Law, Psychology and Sport and Exercise.  I am also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and internal HEA assessor.

As an academic leader I have supported the research culture and outputs in teams I have led by building external links, pump priming research and developing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that support the research ethos and culture.  In the REF2014 my teams were recognised for international standard research with GPAs of 2.29 and 2.17. I have been awarded several grants including a prestigious £350K British Council grant to host a three month Chinese education programme.

My own research is diverse which publications in areas of blood coagulation, postpartum weight loss and echocardiography.  However, my research can broadly be categorised under the heading of physical activity and health.  I am currently Director of Studies for a PhD investigating the impact of isometric exercise on blood pressure.
